TUNIS, January 17, 2011 (AFP) - Tunisian Prime Minister Mohammed Ghannouchi on Monday said all political prisoners would be freed, as he announced a new transitional government after the ouster of the former president.
"We have decided to free all the people imprisoned for their ideas, their beliefs or for having expressed dissenting opinions," Ghannouchi said.
Tunisian PM also lifts ban on main human rights group.
He also announced "total freedom" for the media and said a ban on the activities of the North African state's main human rights group had been lifted.
"We announce total freedom of information," Ghannouchi said.
"We have decided to allow all associations to have normal activities without any interference on the part of the government," he said, listing the League of Human Rights as one of the organizations.
