LOS ANGELES – Police in Los Angeles have seized $100
million worth of PCP and arrested two suspects in a narcotics bust
involving a major nationwide drug-trafficking ring, authorities
announced Friday.
The Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime
Task Force (LA IMPACT) said suspects Darryl Burton and La Gina
Huckaby were arrested on Wednesday, the Los Angeles Times reported.
Officers from LA IMPACT found packages containing gallons of PCP, or
phencyclidine, in the suspect's possession at the time of their
arrest. After obtaining search warrants, officers conducted raids at
several homes and storage facilities, where approximately 130
gallons of PCP was located -- enough to produce around 10 million
individual doses of the drug, at $10 each.
Officers also seized $389,000 in cash, two assault weapons and
further chemicals capable of making another 500 gallons of PCP, the
interagency taskforce said in a statement.
"They were shipping and moving and dealing a huge amount of
product," Lt. Scott Fairfield said. "It's the largest PCP seizure
I've ever heard of."
Burton, who along with Huckaby is still in custody, is believed to
be a "major player" within the trafficking organization that is
thought to be operating out of Texas, New York and Washington, D.C.,
officials said.
LA IMPACT had been conducting an investigation into the organization
for about a month.
